Best Bargain Books Closes Up Shop

Book store on E. Broadway for the past 10 years closed its doors earlier this week.

After announcing last month that it was planning on closing its doors in late August, Best Bargain Books has officially packed up, leaving Port Jefferson after 10 years earlier this week.

Owners Russ and Cheryl Ruvinsky closed a Centereach location in 2010, and while they told Patch last month that they planned on closing both Port Jefferson and their East Patchogue shops at the end of the month, a sign on the door in Port Jeff tells customers that they're still open on Robinson Avenue in East Patchogue.

A general movement to e-readers has been the driving force behind the shop's closure.

"The economy is the primary reason," Russ Ruvinsky said in an interview. "The electronic media, the e-readers -- we're a victim of the electronic age."

The shop closed up either Sunday night or Monday, according to an employee at Ecolin Jewelers next door.

If anyone is interested in renting their old space, a 'For Rent' sign on E. Broadway notes to call 631-258-6102.
