"All Good" For Port Jeff Brewery Owner With First Year Under His Belt

Port Jefferson Brewing Company is having a special bash to commemorate its anniversary.

Almost one year ago, Michael Philbrick brought something beautiful and precious into this world.

Oh yeah. He also had a baby.

From basement brewing kit to full fledged brewery, Philbrick has spent the last year perfecting his craft all while launching new types of beer from the Port Jefferson Brewing Company at his Chandler Square shop.

"It really doesn't feel like we have been open for a year yet at the same time I feel like we accomplished so much in this short year," Philbrick said. "We now have about 120 accounts in Suffolk and Nassau counties and are adding more every week."

While he always planned on making it in this business he said he has already exceeded his goals for the year and then some.

"But there is still a lot of ground for us to cover here in year two. People have been asking for more beers in a bottle and we are going to start releasing the Cold North Wind, Oatmeal Stout, and Runaway Ferry in 22 ounce bottles," Philbrick revealed. "There is also a plan in the works to get our Schooner Ale in 12 ounce bottles."

Also coming up, Port Jefferson Brewing Company will be a part of the Great American Beer Festival in Denver for the first time on Oct. 13 along with 700 other brewers.

He said that the best thing about being a business owner in the village is the support he gets from the community.

"People take a lot of pride in what we do and it shows by their continued support in both buying our products and self-promoting to family, friends, and visitors," Philbrick said.

He has no complaints so far.

"Its all good," said Philbrick.

On Oct. 6, Port Jefferson Brewing Company will celebrate its year anniversary with a special party from Noon until 6 p.m.
