A Modell's Sporting Goods is coming to Rocky Point in the Kohl's Shopping Center next to Michael's on Rocky Point-Yaphank Road sometime in 2013. Meanwhile, Plaza Surf and Sports has been holding a moving sale and plans to move to Miller Place next to Napper Tandy's in the former Miller Place Administration building in early April.

Carvel Owner Wins Bid on Former KFC; 'Immediate' Clean-Up Overdue
The former Kentucky Fried Chicken may look the same as it has over the past few years, but after the parcel was auctioned off last fall, plans at the very least are in the works to clean the lot up – though it remains up in the air what will happen after that.

Paul Famighetti, who owns the abutting parcel which currently hosts a Carvel Ice Cream, said on Monday that he bought the lot at the Suffolk County Property Auction in October for "much more than you might have expected."

Proposed plans to add a new restaurant expansion to the Mayfair Shopping Center are being met with some resistance from neighboring residents.

Snap Fitness Exits Branch Shopping Plaza
When LA Fitness announced it would be coming to Smithtown in the same shopping center as Snap Fitness, many locals questioned why the gym would move in where one already exists.
Now only LA Fitness remains.

Bow Wow Treasures Packs Up Shop
As one shop owner says it is time to move on.
Bow Wow Treasures, a thrift shop dedicated to raising money to open a local animal shelter said that the Kings Park location is just not working and is in the process of looking to rent in nearby towns where he said the majority of the store’s donations and customers come from.

Hospital Awards Contract for New Medical and Research Building
The Los Angeles-based firm AECOM will provide "planning, medical engineering, design, project management, interior fit-out, cost estimating, project cost model and risk registry services" for the new MART building at Stony Brook University Hospital, the firm announced Thursday.
The MART (Medical and Research Translation) building will be a 150-bed, 465,000-square-foot, $275 million addition to the hospital that will house the center for advanced medical imaging and cancer care, the new children's hospital, and other intensive care units.
