MILLER PLACE

Japanese Hibachi Proposed on Route 25A in Miller Place

Ginger Japan Inc. is seeking Brookhaven Town approval to convert four retail spaces in the Dunkin' Donuts plaza at 725 Route 25A in Miller Place to a 119-seat Japanese restaurant .

On the calendar for the upcoming planning board meeting on April 22, a special permit and variation are needed in order to use the space for the 4,996 square-foot restaurant. The property is owned by Aliano Real Estate and is zoned J2-business.

In order for the permit and variations to be approved, all revisions must be approved by the Town Engineer and the Planning Board. Construction activity can not begin until the building permit has been issued.

New Hot Dog Eatery Opens in Port Jefferson Station

There are plenty of burger joints around town, and plenty of delis and pizza places too. But no restaurants in the greater Port Jefferson area that specialize in hot dogs.  

But that has changed now that Long Island Dogs is open in Port Jefferson Station.
“We have these kinds of places in Connecticut, where it’s a grilled dog and not in a truck on the side of the road with the hot dog in the water. ... So we decided to bring this taste to New York. It certainly is different,” said Ron Gavern, who manages the eatery for his son Jonathan, the owner.

New Sports Bar Under Construction in Nesconset

As one bar closes, another bar is getting ready to pour its first drinks in Nesconset.

Boulevards Sports Bar & Grill is quickly being built on the corner of Francis St and Smithtown Boulevard, opposite Borella's Wholesale Nursery and farm stand. Construction workers were seen working on the brick and stone exterior of the building on Tuesday afternoon.

Another Health Inspection Failed at Uncle Giuseppe's


Uncle Giuseppe's failed another health inspection last week at its Smithtown store, cited for two critical health issues related to a broken display case that resulted in food rising to unsafe temperatures, according to the state's Department of Agriculture and Markets.

Kings Park Farmers Market Set For Early Start


The Kings Park Farmers Market will get an earlier start this season, kicking off on May 5 ahead of last year’s June start.The market will offer regional produce including vegetable, herbs, fruits, plants, baked goods, and a variety of fish and shellfish, eggs, cheeses, pasta, pickles and fair trade products. The market will also stock gluten free products, handcrafted soaps, poultry and pork.

Solar Energy Installations Rising Slowly in Three Village

Residents of Three Village are slowly becoming aware of the benefits of having a solar energy electrical system. Data requested from LIPA by Three Village Patch show the number of solar energy installations in the community rose quickly in 2010 and 2011, and in 2012 still showed an increase over 2009. According to LIPA:
  • 2009: 3 solar electrical systems installed
  • 2010: 21 solar electrical systems installed
  • 2011: 24 solar electrical systems installed
  • 2012: 8 solar electrical systems installed

Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza Raises $10K for Autism Causes

Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza celebrated its grand opening last week by supporting Autism Awareness Month with NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino.
Marino is a partner in the restaurant chain, which is known for its “well-done” pizzas.

In celebration of its grand opening, the restaurant contributed all of its day’s sales to the Dan Marino Foundation, which supports autism causes. Marino established the foundation with his wife after their son Michael was diagnosed with the disorder.
