Chit Chat Cafe Now Open, Serving Turkish Cuisine in Port Jeff Station

After more than a year of prep, Turkish cafe opens for business.

The is now open for business serving all types of Turkish food for breakfast, lunch and dinner at 1597 Route 112 in Port Jefferson Station. The cafe also doubles as a Turkish food market.

that she had been rennovating the restaurant space for a year and was looking forward to opening soon. The Grand Opening didn't happen until Spring, but she and her partners are looking forward to serving the food of their homeland - Catalbas is originally from Istanbul - and are putting their trust into chef, Bora Pala, who was previously at Angora Turkish Grill in Medford.

Turkish style food isn’t as popular as other types of ethnic food on Long Island, like Chinese, Greek or Japanese Sushi. The food guide Zagats only lists 18 Turkish restaurants on all of Long Island. is the closest Turkish market you can find. The nearest Turkish restaurants are in East Setauket and Patchogue.

Newsday's Explore LI stopped in to Chit Chat Cafe to taste test of some of the menu items.

"It was in the evening that I tasted the restaurant’s fluffy zucchini pancake ($5.95) made with scallions, fresh mint and dill. Both babaghanoush ($5.95) and hummus ($5.95) — staples on any Mediterranean-Middle Eastern menu — were nicely turned out," reported Joan Reminick in her post on the site. "So, too, was a juicy entree of Adana kebab ($10.95) — highly spiced ground lamb, skewered and grilled. A real surprise was the sprightly salad nestled next to a mound of rice on the same plate."
