put out a call to honor couples married at the hotel the year it opened and Paul and Lillian Winklarek of Baiting Hollow answered.
The Winklareks were married at Danford's Inn (as it was known back then) on October 11, 1986.
The couple said they picked Danford's for their wedding because they "simply loved the location and the energy of the place."
"We were living in Stony Brook at that time and spent time in Port Jefferson on a regular basis," the Winklarek said. "Once we saw the upstairs and spoke to the management team, the decision was easy."
To help them celebrate their silver anniversary, Danford's will host the couple and 50 guests at a cocktail party when they renew their vows this year.
They’ll spend the night at Danford's and get breakfast the following morning. The Winklareks get all that plus limo transportation to and from hotel is courtesy of Danford's for winning its 25th anniversary contest. The celebration will take place on October 23.
The general manager of Danford's, Stewart Weiner said he was “thrilled” to have Mr. and Mrs. Winklarek come back to the hotel where they were first married and wants to make it a “beautiful and memorable day.”
The couple said that they had two practices to help them stay together all this time.
“Always respect and honor your partner and never take that person for granted,” they said. “Secondly, try always to make the right choices for the right reasons.”
