PHOTOS: Former Texaco Gas Station Demolished

Property was cleared by Jan. 25 to make way for a new Hess station.

The former Texaco gas station at the corner of Route 112 and Washington Avenue has been demolished, paving the way for Hess Corporation to build a gas station that many residents welcomed with open arms.

The razing comes about 15 months after the Brookhaven Town Planning Board approved the plan despite its own reservations about the project. Some residents, however, said they would rather have a nice-looking, new gas station than the blighted shell of a Texaco station that had become a target for vandals.

The Brookhaven Town Planning Board could not be reached for comment.
