Home Decor Store Looking for 'Strong Women'

Lavender Fields is holding an essay contest for women with a compelling story to tell.

Lavender Fields in Port Jefferson Village is looking to hear from strong women, not necessarily the ones who can bench 300 pounds, but ones who have a compelling story to tell.

The home decor shop is holding an essay contest asking entrants to write an essay that explains what makes you a strong woman and how you gave back to the community and how you paid it forward.

Owner Lori Ressa said the idea came to her as she was working on her book about surviving the worst.

"The book is actually one of inspiration. It is a very positive book," she said.

Ressa didn't want to reveal too much about her book but said it will be published as an ebook.

Anyone who is interested in entering the contest can visit the store's blog to find out more information. The contest is open until December 15.
