La Parilla Growing Following In Port Jefferson

Four months into his restaurant's new life in Port Jefferson, La Parilla owner Vin Grillo says the restaurant is continually growing a new following.

"We have a lot of new friends, new customers, along with a lot of locals who had come to the restaurant for many years," Grillo said Tuesday.

Yelp reviewers have raved about La Parilla to a nearly five-star result.

"From beginning to end this place was fabulous," one reviewer wrote on June 20.

Another wrote on July 8: "Really liked it here. The atmosphere was nice, the staff was friendly and the food was really good. ... Very fresh and tasty. We will definitely be back."

The previous restaurant, Costa de España, was a traditional European Spanish eatery, but Grillo said he has added more Latin American and South American fare. He said his new chef, Juan Alvarez, has more than 20 years of experience and specializes in these types of cuisines.

"We weren't sure what to expect, being a new business," Grillo said. "We learn something new every day. ... It's been great."

Located in Traders Cove, La Parilla is open seven days per week with happy hour from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., ladies' night on Thursdays, and live music on Fridays. Try the paella ($28.95), which is big enough for two.
