Mather Comes in 28th in U.S. News New York State Hospital Rankings

Hospital also recognized for specialties in gastroenterology, geriatrics and orthopedics.

in Port Jefferson placed 28th out of 241 hospitals in New York State in U.S. News & World Report’s annual Best Hospitals rankings. Mather was also ranked 34th out of 184 hospitals in the New York metro area, which includes northern New Jersey and Westchester County.

The hospital also received a designation of “high-performing” in gastroenterology, geriatrics and orthopedics. The magazine wrote that Mather “scored high in patient safety, demonstrating commitment to reducing accidents and medical mistakes.”

In a statement, Mather Hospital President Kenneth Roberts said that the ratings reflect the hospital’s “commitment to excellent quality of care and patient safety.”

“I thank our staff, physicians, board and volunteers for all of their dedication and good work that led to this recognition,” Roberts said.

Nearby in Port Jefferson was not ranked by the magazine but it was reported that 75 percent of the people surveyed said that they would “definitely” recommend the hospital to friends and family. The hospital beat both the state (63 percent) and national (69 percent) averages for that question. Four percent said they would “probably or definitely not” recommend St. Charles. Regarding their overall experience at St. Charles, 70 percent of patients surveyed gave it a “highest or very high” rating with eight percent rating it “low.” The full patient satisfaction survey results can be found here.

In comparison, 76 percent of the people surveyed said that they would “definitely” recommend Mather hospital to friends and family with 3 percent saying “probably or definitely not.” Patients also rated their overall experience at Mather with 70 percent giving it a “highest or very high” rating and six percent rating it “low.” Click here for Mather’s full survey results.
