New Bar Opening at Cafe Badabing Site in Port Jefferson

Called, La Paz, the bar will also serve Spanish-American style food.

The former site of multiple bars at 1615 Main Street in Port Jefferson will be reopening as a bar/restaurant called La Paz serving Spanish-American cuisine in a few weeks, according to a man who identified himself as the owner.

The property at that address had been a few different places over the years, the last a club called The Riff. It had also been known as Café Badabing and became infamous because of a murder that took place there in 2006.

Various reports say that a drifter named Daniel Callahan killed William Moschinger of Selden when Moschinger commented that Callahan’s clean cut appearance made him look like a cop. The owner of the bar made the gruesome discovery the next day.

The bar closed down sometime afterwards and subsequently was home to The Riff. A sign for The Riff still hung above the front doors as recently as March 1.

A man who answered the door at the restaurant on Wednesday said that he was the new owner. He had a very heavy accent and had trouble answering questions. He did say that the bar/restaurant might open in a few weeks and that it was going to serve Spanish-American style food.
