New Bridgeport Ferry Site Sees More Support

A relocation of the Bridgeport-Port Jefferson Ferry on the north side of the Long Island Sound is reportedly gaining traction.

The Bridgeport-Port Jefferson ferry, working for years to relocate its Connecticut ferry terminal, may be finding some support to move it to a part of the city that the business owners have been trying to push for.

According to a report on CTPost.com, members of the state's Harbor Commission approved the plan recently after a state judge had previously upheld a decision to deny the proposal, citing a lack of support from city and state government.

Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch had previously warmed to the project, citing the economic impact the project can have to "one of the city's most distressed" neighborhoods.

The current site in Bridgeport is considered too small for the owners of the ferry service, noting a lack of parking and long waiting times.
