New Owner on Tap at Brewtopia

Former employee turned owner Paul Diedrichs, said he is adding more stock and more choices of beer.

Paul Diedrichs isn't new to the brew, but he is the new owner of Port Jefferson's Brewtopia.

Diedrichs, 23, recently took the reins after buying the shop, which sells craft beers, home brewing equipment and ingredients, such as specialty malts and hops,, from Mark Romano.

The young entrepreneur is familiar with the mix, having worked in Brewtopia for the past three years. When asked if he was concerned  with the high turnover of business in downtown, he said he is confident that the store will continue to do well.

"I'm not concerned. We are an established business with a specific market," he said. "We will do just fine."

They plan to host a $500 beer raffle at the end of the month to herald in the new ownership.

"We will be offering plenty more beer choices and more stock," said Diedrichs, who offered words of advice that any respectable beer drinker should follow.

"Drink better beer," he said.

Brewtopia is located in the Harbor Square Mall on Main Street in Port Jefferson. Visit their Facebook page for more information.
