New Owner Unwraps The Red Sled Christmas Shoppe

After the previous owner retired, Kathy Fahy's love of Christmas inspired her to keep the tradition alive in Port Jefferson village.

When Kathy Fahy visited Port Jefferson from upstate New York for the first time this spring, a friend introduced her to on East Main Street. She fell in love with the Christmas shop.

“I am a bit of a Christmas goonie,” Fahy said.

The women who ran The Red Sled told her that the store was closing because the owner was retiring but Fahy had other plans.

“I decided that while the owner would prefer to close and retire, the iconic spirit and passion of Christmas embodied in ‘The Red Sled’ needed to continue in Port Jefferson,” she said.

With the help of the store employees, Margot Garant’s law office and moral support from her friends, Fahy was able to buy the shop and reopen just in time for the season.

Although many of us would rather not think about the summer coming to an end, the Halloween decorations and Back to School supplies in stores tell a different story. Christmas is just around the corner.

A Grand Opening is set for Friday and Fahy’s months-long dream of continuing The Red Sled Christmas Shoppe tradition in Port Jefferson will be complete.

“The staff, Carmela, Sue, Cindi and Tracey are all the same and the passion they bring to ‘work’ is infectious, bringing the passion of Christmas to us every day,” said Fahy.
