We recap some of last week's news from around the area.

Three Village

Not many 17-year-olds get to say they have performed solo at Carnegie Hall, but Madeleine Vaillancourt is one who can. Vaillancourt, who is just finishing up her junior year at Ward Melville High School, was recently a featured soloist at Carnegie Hall with the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra of New York. She performed the Mendelssohn Concerto in E Minor for violin.

Drivers heading east on 25A from Miller Place to Rocky Point will find it easy to spot pool service and supply stores, with a handful within a mile or two of each other.

With this Spring being the warmest ever on Long Island, business has been as high as the temperatures and customers are hurrying to get their pools ready for the season.

"Business has been ridiculous," said Robert Schmit, manager of in Miller Place. "We’re putting up record numbers on a weekly basis. Unless it turns into a rainy and cold summer, it’ll keep going."

Smithtown

Montreal-based clothing retailer Garage is set to open a location at Smith Haven Mall, which a company spokeswoman said will be one of 18 U.S. stores in operation by the fall.

Garage caters to teenage girls, with a mission statement of treating and dressing each customer "so she feels like a celebrity."

According to U.S. Census data, between 23.8 percent and 26.3 percent of the populations of Setauket, Stony Brook, Hauppauge, Nesconset, Smithtown, and St. James are below the age of 18.

"In this case, the profile of the community shows us that we will have the pleasure of sharing the Garage shopping experience with many teen girls," said Barbara Epstein, a company spokeswoman.

Islip

The all clear has been given at Islip Town Hall following another bomb scare on Tuesday, the fourth over the past 10 months.

Town spokesperson Inez Birbiglia told Patch that a call to 911 indicated there was a bomb at 655 Main Street in Islip, which is Town Hall’s address. The building was evacuated at 11:45 a.m. and was re-opened one hour later following a search by Suffolk County Police K-9 units and Town public safety officers.

While the bomb threats have been nothing more than a disruption for Town employees and residents who were in the building at the time of each hoax, Birbiglia said the incidents have led the town to develop an action plan to deal with these situations.
