PHOTO: A Flurry of Skaters at the Rinx in Port Jefferson

A gentle snow fell in Port Jefferson on Monday night as skaters took to the ice for lessons and free skating at The Rinx at Harborfront Park.

The outdoor skating rink is a favorite for many reasons as Lauren, one of our Port Jefferson Patch bloggers, pointed out in a post last year:

"A special place that can only be visited during the chilly winter months, the Rinx is a great place to enjoy a few hours of skating, while taking in the beautifiul view of Port Jefferson harbor," she wrote. "Whether skating with friends or just skating by yourself, the ice rink is a great hangout place. For those who are watching others skate, the second-floor lounge is a perfect place to sit and enjoy the sights below."

For the first snow fall of 2013, The Rinx became a very special place as first-timers teetered around the ice while getting lapped by the more experienced skaters and a hockey player-in-training or two.
