After another bout of snow/sleet mix hit the area Monday night into Tuesday – it's about the time of year when a lot of people have had enough of winter.
The fierce weather seems to have taken its toll on lower Port as well, though it's not just the snowy winter that's caused a lot of wear and tear on village businesses.
Business Improvement District President Tom Schafer said last week that damages inflicted by Superstorm Sandy are still being felt in local shop owners' purses.
"This time of year, everybody usually gets the paint cans out once St. Pat's Day hits," said Schafer, who own's the Schafer's restaurant in the village. "I'm putting a new deck on the end of my building and replacing some damaged planks myself."
"But I've spoken to the entire industry: once Sandy hit, no one really recovered."
