Shopping Goes Mobile with Boutique on Wheels

Coupe Couture hits the streets bringing the shopping to the customer.

Couture has gone cruising thanks to a boutique on wheels that may have fashionistas revving their shopping engines.

You may have seen the mobile boutique, Coupe Couture, around town. The truck is owned by Amanda Langone, who will park her shop in your drive or business for an afternoon or evening of shopping.

Langone started the business about 18 months ago after she was sparked by something she saw while visiting Manhattan. Her husband, Mike is the owner of Port Jefferson Tire and Brake and helped her transform what was once a Federal Express truck into a mobile store.

“My husband got the truck at an auction and with the help of some friends they transformed it from a delivery truck into a boutique,” said Langone.

Home parties are popular for the Coupe, giving ladies a night of shopping in a store that comes to them. Chips and drinks are set up on the dashboard. Shoppers enter via a rolling staircase into the back of the truck. In the warm weather, Langone likes to set up some tables and décor around the truck allowing for a bit more shopping space.

The mobile shop carries handbags, jewelry, fashion baby and pet items and seasonal accessories and clothing. Gas is the only overhead for the shop, which doesn’t have the added headache of paying rent.

Some area businesses have invited Langone to drive over on payday and set up so employees can browse during their lunch break.

The 27-year-old new mom said the business is flexible and fun for her.

“I enjoy working with people. If I want to host a party I can cater to the host’s desire and bring in items they may want to see,” said Langone.

Hosting a party is free and brings some perks in the form of shopping discounts to the hostess.

“It’s great for a girlfriend party or a Sunday brunch,” said Langone. “We bring the party to you.”
