Police: Mastic Man Charged in Murder of Medford…

Skybox, Formerly Handlebar Restaurant, Closes Down [Empty in Mt. Sinai]

After being featured on FOX's Kitchen Nightmares in 2008, restaurant closed, re-opened, and is now closed again.

In 2008, the Handlebar Restaurant, located at 23 Hallock Ave.Route 25A in Mt. Sinai, gained fame by appearing on FOX's Kitchen Nightmares with Chef Gordon Ramsay.

The appearance didn't help the restaurant as it closed down soon after. The restaurant then reopened in 2010 as Skybox Restaurant and Sports Lounge, but didn't last long and closed in Fall of this year.

According to the bulding owner, a lease was just recently taken out on the spot, though it's too early to tell what will be coming to this famed location.

With the right owner, can a restaurant or pub actually survive in this spot or are there too many negative vibes for it to last? Could the location, right where 25A forks off at Nesconset Highway, hurt the business?

Tell us your thoughts in the comments below.

It's not Gordon Ramsey's fault all the restaurants close down after he helps them. These restaurants don't follow through with his suggestions and strategies. They close down because of their own laziness and mistakes. They get the right tools and knowledge to be successful but revert back to their own ways. In no way is it Gordon Ramsey's fault or the shows. these restaurants are lucky to get his advice. They prove to only want the free remodel as in their minds that is all they need and they do nothing wrong. whoever thinks it is Gordon Ramsey's fault is dead wrong, sorry. You might want to get an education If you truly believe this. And if you have a bachelors degree and want to tell me that, well you better go back and get more education because you didn't learn!

@Americanivory: 1) You're not an idiot for having an opinion; you're an idiot for trying to project it in a way that the way Ramsey does business is an extension of his edited TV personality. First and foremost, it's just that. You need to realize that while you see him yelling, screaming, swearing and generally seeming a nuisance, his performance is specifically edited in that fashion to generate ratings. 2) Eric's response, based on how rough and direct the translation is, gives away that French is his first language. He's not showcasing his intelligence, but your definitely exposing your ignorance via grandiose assumptions. 3) Eric's response (again) is simply trying to assert that if Bill had any background in owning a business (particularly one in the industry, as they're absurd to properly maintain) prior to simply jumping into running one (as he himself stated he did in the episode), he'd have been better prepared to see the business' future lasting. Appearing on the show may have boosted them, but that can only carry you so far. You need to adapt and evolve, far more so with food than any other service. 4) Love or hate Ramsay, you simply cannot deny that the man is incredibly successful, and that there are a wide variety of reasons why that is so. You may not like his personality (TV or otherwise), but you have to admit that when it comes to business, he's got a damned good head on his shoulders.

So, no old fashioned burgers, milkshakes and waitresses on roller skates, huh? :-P

Ryan - I am entitled to my opinin and can project it anyway I like - same as you - I still do not like Gordon Ramsey - he may prosper, but he certainly does not help the businesses. I didn't realize you were Eric's spokeman ;)

it seems that almost every restaurant that ramsay visits closes shortly after. a visit from gordon ramsay is a kiss of death. if i had a restaurant i WOULD NOT want that bozo showing up.
