One Man's Guide For Surviving "Frankenstorm"

Storms are nothing new to Port Jefferson Harbor, where I live.

Living downtown I have seen flooded streets from time to time. Once again the News stations are hyping this newest storm as Frankenstorn, The Perfect Storm or just plain ole Hurricane Sandy. As always you hope for the best but plan for the worst. Being single and living in an apartment in downtown Port Jeff I was thinking what essential supplies will I need to survive armageddon. We all know the regular stuff you need but we are talking about things you want to bring home to survive the big storm.

My first stop would be to the Port Jeff Brewery. Fill up a few growlers with craft brewed beer. That would solve what to drink. Next what to eat if the world is coming to an end. A quick trip to The Village Way for some clam chowder and fried shrimp. Then To Pace's for a steak. Then to Salsa Salsa for a whole wheat spinach burrito with the fish of the day. No storm bunker would be complete with out some ice cream from Chandler Square Ice Cream Parlor.

Now that you will be drunk and full you need something to read and watch. Hoping the power stays on.

First stop will be my own garage and my collection of "Car and Driver" magazines from the 1970's to solve what to read. What to watch? Well I hope that my cable stays on so I can watch Velocity, Country Music, and History Channel but cable being cable we know what the results will be. If you are going to wash away into the Long Island Sound then you should be watching something good.

Now let's be serious I'm a guy so I will not be watching Steel Magnolias. My first choice will be one of the best bad movies of all time. Cheech and Chong's Up In Smoke. Not wanting to be a total animal I would go to my sensitive side and go for Field of Dreams and maybe The Natural. Before the storm hits I would go to the PJ Library and get the DVD's about The Great Depression by the History Channel. Giving me the full treatment of emotions: Laughter, Sensitive and Depressions. I could re-watch the Presidential debates for the emotion of anger.

Of course all these grand plans are depending on the lights staying on. Lets just say the worst happens. No lights, power or cable. Making do with my herd of food and micro brew I can sit on my porch. Watch the storm go by. Guzzle from my gallon beer growler and chomp on a rare steak from Pace's. Not a bad way to be washed out to sea.

Oh man I gotta get a girlfriend..
