With all that's happening in Port Jefferson, Patch keeps an eye out for the top stories in the nearby area.

  • The Nesconset Elementary school is after an unofficial vote by the Citizens Advisory Committe recommended closing it. The Princeton Plan, which groups students by grade and not by neighborhood, is also in danger of elimination.
  • A Medford woman Thursday afternoon when she sideswipped a tractor trailer on the LIE between exits 61 and 62. The driver of the tractor trailer was not injuried.
  • The debated plans for a Walgreens in Miller Place Monday by the Brookhaven Planning Board. The plans include a 14,820 square foot Walgreens, a 9,300 square foot retail building, and a 3,500 square foot bank.
  • Police report there have been in Three Village from Oct. 1 through Dec. 17, but they have not confirmed a recent rash of crime in the area.
  • A plan to rid Suffolk County's only homeless sex offender trailers and was delayed earlier this week. The trailers are located in Southampton and Riverside.
