HISTORY: Welcome to Terryville Sign Installed in 1925

Sign was installed on Terryville Road.

Last week we tested your knowledge of local history by asking you to guess where and when the above picture was taken. The Cumsewogue Historical Society submitted this photo to us from the Kenneth Brady Collection and can be found on the Port Jefferson village website in the historical section.

The answer, according to the historical society is that the “Welcome to Terryville” sign was installed on Terryville Road, Terryville in March 1925.

If you are cleaning out the "junk" you've accumulated over the years and come across old photos, postcards, documents, brochures, letters, calendars or anything having to do with Terryville, Port Jefferson Station or Echo, consider donating them to the Cumsewogue Historical Society.

They are always looking for advertising items from local businesses whether they are long gone or still open. If you don't wish to part with your old photos, please consider allowing them to scan them for the archive. They will then be returned to you.

Please contact the Cumsewogue Historical Society at (631) 928-7622 or e-mail: cumsewoguehistory@yahoo.com for more information. All donations are tax deductible and you will be given a receipt for your donation.
