LIPA: Almost Half of Local Customers Affected Have Been Restored

Almost 1,500 customers still lack power according to LIPA.

According to the latest reports on the Long Island Power Authority website there are 1,455 homes still without power in the villages of Port Jefferson and Belle Terre and the towns of Terryville and Port Jefferson Station. So far, according to LIPA, 1,394 customers in those places have had power restored since Irene passed by with 2,849 customers affected in total.

Power outages forced businesses in on Monday after the storm and residents have reported in on various power outages on Facebook.

Carmela Kolman in Port Jefferson told us that the power was out on Myrtle Ave.

Bari Slavin-Suomala said that she is "half a mile east of and we have power. Never lost it."

"Still out on Landing Lane since Sunday," Brendan Duffy said. "Grrr!!!"

Stu Walerstein said he had no power and "it stinks off Rockledge."

"Down the hill from and just lost it for the first time today," said Carmela Kolman.

Julie Mansfield she "finally" got power back on Tuesday about 5 p.m." She lives in Port Jefferson off Sheep Pasture Road.

Kerri Kelly sid on Shore Road they "still no power since Sunday at 6 a.m."
