LIRR: Full Service Restored to Port Jeff Line

Starting on Wednesday morning, the Port Jefferson branch of the Long Island Rail Road is fully operational.

The Long Island Rail Road announced that the Port Jefferson branch is running with full service to and from the Port Jefferson station on Wednesday although some delays were reported in the morning.

The 6:57 a.m. train from Port Jefferson ran 13 minutes late at Huntington because of signal problems.

"The MTA Long Island Rail Road is restoring full weekday service for Wednesday morning’s (August 31) rush hour on the Long Beach and Port Jefferson branches," the LIRR announced on its website.

The LIRR warned that ticket selling machines and electronic announcement systems may not operate because of local power outages at some stations.

"As a result, customers at stations where the service is operating, and the ticket selling machines are not operating, will not be charged the higher on-board fare for tickets purchased on the train," an announcement read.
