7 Cars Smashed, Possibly Shot With Pellet Gun Monday


Hauppauge citizens on Monday night reported seven cars with smashed windows, with at least one report claiming vandals shot the car with a pellet gun, according to police.All of the incidents, logged on April 8, happened in the same general neighborhood.

Smithtown Democrats Name Nesconset Lawyer Town Supervisor Candidate


Steven Snair, 31, received the party's nomination for Smithtown Supervisor on Wednesday, after going through a screening process with the town's democratic committee on Tuesday night. He will go up against incumbent Supervisor Patrick Vecchio and Republican challenger Robert Creighton.

Suffolk DA: Illegal Gun Ring Ran Through Long Island Hotels

A couple from Long Island and a man from Georgia have been arrested following what Suffolk law enforcement officials said was a gun-smuggling operation that ran through a gas station and hotels, including the Holiday Inn Express at Stony Brook, according to a report published Monday in Newsday.

Police arrested Shawdale Frederick, 32, his girlfriend Janet Lewis, 33, both from Middle Island, and Joshua Galbert, 31, of Marietta, Ga. at the Holiday Inn on Thursday. The trio was arraigned Monday on a 62-count indictment, including counts of first-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a violent felony. They were jailed on bail of $1 million, $850,000, and $800,000, respectively.

Monday started as a picturesque day for former Commack resident Joanna Barouch, who was at the Boston Marathon to support a friend in the race.
They visited the scenic Boston Harbor the day before, went to the market and even spent time in the JFK Library. But the day of the marathon was a beautiful day that turned tragic in an instant.
