News Nearby: Residents Complain That Commack Hess is Illegally Zoned

Also, Rocky Point Aid Auto shuts down and Hauppauge club holds grand re-opening.

Almost two months after Aid Auto Stores announced it was closing its final five stores after being in business on Long Island since 1966, the Rocky Point location has gone dark.

The store ran a "Going Out of Business" sale during that time period, and now the spot is up for lease. This location joins the troubled restaurant location next door as the two vacant spots in the Crossroads Plaza West where Route 25A and North Country Road meet.

Town Drug and Alcohol Center Relocates in Smithtown

Horizons Counseling and Education Center, the Town of Smithtown’s home for drug and alcohol problem prevention and education, has moved to 161 East Main Street, the former home to Sunrise Golf.

The move gives its staff the ability to perform all services under one roof, something it has not been able to do.

"We were doing a lot of our programming in other locations wherever we could find a spot because we didn't have any space to provide services, we were limited," said Elaine Economopoulos, director of drug and alcohol services. "We're not growing, we just now can maximize our potential."

Smithtown Library District Adopts Increased Budget

The Smithtown Special Library District unanimously adopted the 2013 budget, with an increase of 2.75 percent over last year’s budget, at a special meeting held Friday afternoon.

According to library treasurer, Joanne T. Grove, the raise, though exceeds the state mandated two percent property tax cap, is allowed.

Lawsuit: Commack Hess Illegally Zoned, More Study Necessary

A Commack business and four residents have filed a joint lawsuit against the Smithtown Town Board for its decision to allow Hess to build a new gas station in Commack.

The plaintiffs want Smithtown Town's Board's 3-2 decision on March 22, that allows Hess Corporation to build a 12-pump Hess Express with a 1,231-square-foot convenience store, to be annulled.

Wall Street To Host Grand Opening in Hauppauge

Hauppauge's late night clubspot will see the grand opening this weekend, after nearly 7 months of renovations under new management.

Wall Street has announced it will hold its grand opening celebrations from Sept. 13 - Sept. 15. The late-night entertainment venue has been been extensively remodeled to look like upscale nightclub aimed at attracting an older crowd.
