VIDEO: Cedar Beach, After Irene

Patch went down to Cedar Beach on Sunday after Hurricane Irene passed through.

On Sunday afternoon Patch went out to view the damage that Hurricane Irene left in its path. Miller Place resident, Jack Shapiro and editor Lon Cohen drove down to Cedar Beach and shot some video of the flooding on the roads and damage to the Brookhaven Town dock.

Surprisingly, there were hundreds of people out with the same idea to inspect the boats in the harbor and see what Irene's winds and rain did to the area.

Along Shore Road, there were homes that Brookhaven Town Supervisor Mark Lesko had . Many seemed to experience dramatic flooding and the waters hadn't fully receded by the time we got there.

Taking full advantage of the situation, one young man was spotted kayaking in his front yard.

Just hours after the storm passed, people were out of their homes inspecting the flooded roadways. Others headed down to see if their boats made it through the storm. Many just came to be on the beach to watch the waves.

At one point it seemed that one of the walkways on the town boat ramp was gone, but both had broken loose and pushed over to the side making it seem like one ramp was missing.

Despite the fact that the water was still very deep in some places and the wind was blowing hard, SUVs and pick-up trucks lined the road into Cedar Beach on Sunday.
