Where Was This Historical Photo Taken in Port Jefferson?

Guess where this historical photo of Port Jefferson was taken.

This historical photo taken around the middle of the 20th century shows members of the Brookhaven Town Police Department in front of Second Precinct headquarters.

"Police operated out of the building from 1950 until January 1, 1960, when the Suffolk County Police absorbed the Brookhaven Town Police," according to

The former police headquarters in Port Jefferson later had another use and was recently given another purpose.

Can you guess what building this is? Tell us in the comments.

(No cheating by going to the historical section of the Port Jefferson village website or by calling Ken Brady or , both of whom no doubt know exactly what building this is.)

That's my Dad, 3rd from the left. The photo was taken in what is the extension on the Bank Building and was the Brookhaven Tax Office at the time. I think it was taken in 1959. Shortly after this photo was taken the Brookhaven Town Police became Suffolk County Police.

That's right. The Brookhaven Tax Receiver's Building.

Hi Beth. Thanks for the description and pointing out your Dad in the picture. I assume he went on to become part of the Suffolk County PD. I see this one was courtesy of your collection. If you have any others to share for this series that would be great! - Lon

Does anyone know who anyone else is in the pic? Especially the man on the far right end?
