Winter Weather Advisory in Effect for Port Jefferson

National Weather Service expects about an inch of snow to fall locally.

Jack Frost will strike Port Jefferson again on Wednesday night – though not nearly as badly as last week.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Suffolk County and southern Nassau County from 5 p.m. Wednesday until 6 a.m. Thursday as another winter storm passes through the tri-state area.

The snow is expected to pick up early Thursday morning, around 3:00, with just about an inch expected to accumulate in the area. The advisory warns, however, heavier bands of snow within the storm could produce locally heavier ranges from 4 to 8 inches.

Winds should remain lighter than the Feb. 8 blizzard – 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph. Winds will still be strong enough to reduce visibilities to as low as a half-mile and possibly have white-out conditions for periods.

Roadways could be covered in snow or ice for the Thursday morning commute and the National Weather Services warns that motorists should expect delays.
