Sheriff's Office Open House and Family Day

Activities and Demonstrations Planned for New York State Sheriffs’ Week


The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office is the oldest law enforcement agency in Suffolk County.  This year, the Sheriffs are celebrating 330 years of continuing service. 


Suffolk County Sheriff Vincent F. DeMarco will be hosting an Open House and Family Day on Sunday, September 22nd  from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Riverhead Correctional Facility on County Road 24.

Officers will be hosting guided tours of the facility, and various law enforcement and community relations programs will be highlighted throughout the day. There will be K-9 demonstrations, Emergency Response Team demonstrations, historic artifacts, equipment and field operations demonstrations, as well as opportunities to learn about programs such as Project Lifesaver, Test Don’t Guess and obtain Child and Senior ID Cards. McGruff the Crime Dog will be onsite, and children will have an opportunity to participate in the Sheriff’s Bike Rodeo and ride an obstacle course. 


The event will be held at 100 Center Drive, Riverhead.

Directions to the Suffolk County Correctional Facility in Riverhead:


Take the Long Island Expressway traveling east to exit 71. Make a right at the stop sign (heading east) for about 4 miles. Watch for the Correctional Facility on the right.


From Sunrise Highway traveling east, take exit 61. Follow the signs to County Rd 51- Riverhead.  At Route 24 make a left. Go approximately a ¼ mile and watch for the Correctional Facility on the left.
