Crepe and Rice Pudding Bar Planned to Replace Eat Piada

Opening November, 2012, owners plan to serve crepes and rice pudding.

If you're desperately missing Eat Piada, then nothing soothes the soul like comfort food, especially a good rice pudding bar. A sign on the window at the Chandler Square retail space says this fall, that's exactly what's planned to replace the restaurant that closed down this summer.

Maria Palmar, a local real estate agent, filled the space at 104 Main Street in Chandler Square. She said the couple who also own Ralph's Famous Italian Ices on Main Street took over the shop and plan to open a new place called "Sweet n' Savory."

With an exclusive to represent all the Chandler Square units, Palmar has placed over 90 percent of the retailers there. She said that the new restaurant is "bringing us crepes and rice pudding."

A sign on the front door promises that it will open its doors in November.

If it does open on time, the restaurant will be ready for the popular Dickens Festival, route: {:controller=>"articles", :action=>"show", :id=>"no-humbug-for-dickens-fest-photos"} -->, an annual three-day event that for local shopkeppers is like

This idea has far less chance of surviving than the last 2 short lived stores!

It's a tough location for pricey pretty food. Good Luck.

I dunno, it seems like food is a tough go in a spot surrounded by many other food establishments. Both the desert and sandwich shops didn't survive. There are so many ice cream/frozen yogurt stores to choose from do we really need more deserts? Not to mention what will happen to the business in winter. It's too bad we can't get something practical that residents (everyone really) can use. Maybe I'm just a cranky resident who is wistful for the days of the "old" Port Jefferson. Well, good luck anyway.

A lot of people said , "TheTea House" on main would never make it... It's a success! Let's support and encourage new ideas.

I went here today. I had a crepe with Nutella, banana, strawberry, coconut, hot fudge & whipped cream. It was amazing. My son had one with ice cream added. Yum. The owners were so nice, too. This will be a regular stop for both of us.

Having a negative attitude toward new businesses is largely why so many budding places do NOT make it. Before judging, open your minds and your wallets and support places. Being a business owner is hard enough, especially in PJ, and we need all the support we can get, and not just monetary. I hope this place takes off!

I hope everybody that left negative comments, at least went to Sweet 'n' Savory to try and see for themselves what has become the talk of the town. We have been there numerous times and the food is nothing short of delicious and the atmosphere is warm and comfortable.

We went the other day. It was so cold outside. Once inside, the comfortable window seat and delicious hot cocoa & crepes with hot fugde & fruit were perfect. A great way to end our local shopping trip and family day out.
