Blogger: What is Happening at Mobil?

The price of gas at the Mobil station on Route 112 has been drastically changing on a daily basis.

Each day my commute takes me down Route 112, North Ocean Avenue and the LIE. On my way to and from work I pass six gas stations: two Hess', a Coastal, one Gulf and a Mobil. Every day I take a mental note of who has the cheapest gas. The Hess and Gulf stations usually win and thankfully charge the same price for cash and credit. Coastal is usually a few cents behind (cash only), but whatever is happening at Mobil has become a joke with people I know.

Since Saturday, I have seen the price of regular gas fluctuate between $3.89 and $4.59 per gallon, with it sometimes being drastically different prices between 8 AM and 6 PM. All the while the price at the surrounding stations has not changed more than a few cents.

If you Google the Mobil station at 1889 New York 112, Coram, NY 11727, there are currently six reviews, and no one has anything good to say. Yelp echos more of the same sentiment.

It is a shop owner's right to charge whatever price they like for the goods and services they are selling. If people are foolish enough to buy gas for $4.59 when it's $3.89 a mile down the road, that's their fault. However, if you happen to be coasting on fumes and come across this station, I suggest you roll the dice and try to make it that extra mile.

Caveat emptor, my friends.
