Cedar Beach: All This From a Glacier?

Come see this beautiful beach, a perfect hang-out spot for any day in the summer.

Ah, Cedar beach... One of the best gifts from a glacier long ago. A beautifiul expanse of sand stretching along the northern coast of Long Island. From here, on sunny days, you can see all the way across the Long Island Sound to Connecticut. Watch as the boats sail past, as the Port Jefferson Ferry chugs its way into the horizon, or as the waves melodically lap up onto the shore.

I don't think anything could be more beautifiul that the sunset. Travel down the road to the end, where you can sit on the peir and see the glowing orange sun slowly sink below the horizon, turning the sky into pastel shades of pinks, oranges, and purples.

Walk along the beach, and you can find beautiful shells and beach glass. I've found blue, brown, purple, and green. At my house they have all gone into a nice vase as an eye-catching decoration for any countertop or table. Or, on a nice and hot summer afternoon, run into the water for a refreshing cooldown. But don't forget your goggles! Swim right along the shoreline, as shallow as you can swim, and you'll see pipefish, minnows, horseshoe crabs, or the occasional spider crab or hermit crab. Dive deeper out where the water is darker, and you can find beautifiulluy smoothed rocks.

No matter if you choose to hang out around the volleyball or basketball court with some freinds, walk along the beach, or just sit and soak up the sun, Cedar Beach is a perfect place for a summer day.
