Getting in the Halloween Spirit at the Library

Halloween events in the Children's Department at the Library

Halloween preparations are in full swing in the Children's Department at the Port Jefferson Free Library.  Our "not too" spooky decorations are up, the Halloween themed items are on display and the "Guess How Many Candy Corn" contest is underway.  Unfortunately, our giant pumpkin for the "Guess How Much I Weigh" contest was a victim of our way-too-rainy spring and summer seasons.  But, the lucky winner of the candy corn contest not only takes home all the delicious treats, but a new toothbrush and individually sized tube of toothpaste, as well.

We are participating in the second annual Port Jefferson Harvest Festival, to be held this weekend, with a Cat in the Hat scarecrow in the front of the building (materials courtesy of the ) and a Monster Mask Making Drop-In Craft for children aged 2 - 12 years old in the Activity Room on Sunday, October 23 from 1:30 - 3:30 PM.

Programs for our patrons include a story craft, Halloween Scary Scene, for 2 - 3 years olds with their parents, Saturday, October 22 at 11 AM; Stained Glass Jack O' Lantern for 3 - 5 year olds, Thursday, October 27 at 1:30 PM; and the very popular Halloween Party and Parade on Saturday, October 29 at 2:00 PM.  This is always a wonderful time, with the whole family dressing up, enjoying a great show, and parading around the Library to the sounds of Halloween music. There will be treats, as well!
