Summer Reading Program 2012: Dream Big-READ!

Children's Summer Reading Program at PJFL

Calling all dreamers!  Close your eyes, make a wish and join us to explore all things nocturnal - dreams, stars and planets, bats, owls, "spooky" stories and more during the Port Jefferson Free Library's Summer Reading Program.  Children from birth to age 12 will celebrate 'Dream Big - READ!' with nighttime-themed crafts, storytimes, movies, book discussions, music and more.

The program kicks off Saturday, June 16 at 2PM with Jason Reilly's live animal show "Do Animals Dream Big?". Jason is a crowd favorite at the Library as he introduces his animal friends from Green Meadows Farm and gives all an opportunity to get upclose and personal with each.

The goal of the Summer Reading Program is to encourage children (and their grownups!) to read throughout the summer, both to prevent skill loss during the time off from school and to foster a lifelong love of reading.  This program is designed to make reading FUN, so that children will want to participate and read more.  In addition, children who read during the summer are better prepared to meet the challenges of a new school year in the fall.
