This morning's TV news brought to my attention the layoffs & actual shutting of hundreds of Patch sites....WHAT???....I hit the net and sure enough found a google page full of stories about its demise...Will our Patch be "shuttered"?...If not now, how long before it's gone?...Very sad, really...From the beginning, I thought Patch was a great idea, one funded/run by AOL, a local news site that could actually "make it"....An almost real time local news source, complete with comments/input from readers/local residents...The other "local" papers that we have run a week behind local stories and have so many delays for posters that what is typically posted is outdated before it even hits the site...What a shame...I hope that we are at least lucky enough to keep our little Patch around for a while...Editor: any word from the top on the fate of the PortJeffersonPatch???
