Port Jeff Orthopedic Surgeon, Thomas Koening, Dies
Koening, a retired surgeon, worked at St. Charles and Mather Hospital, was 79.
Thomas Koening, a retired orthopedic surgeon at St. Charles and John T. Mather Hospitals passed away Friday at age 79.
Koening, of Port Jefferson, was the husband of the late Carol and father of Virginia, Phyllis, Thomas and Michael. Stepfather of Deborah, Lee and Anthony as well as a grandfather of 13, according to his obituary on Newsday.
A wake for Koening will be held at Nolan & Taylor-Howe Funeral Home, 5 Laurel Avenue, Northport, on Thursday from 2 p.m. -5 p.m. and 7 p.m. -9 p.m. There will be a funeral Mass on Friday at 10 a.m., at St. Philip Neri Church, Northport. Private interment to follow. The family has asked that in In lieu of flowers, donations in Tom's memory be given to St. Charles Foundation, 200 Belle Terre Road, Port Jefferson, to benefit the Specialty Care Center/Spina Bifida at St. Charles Hospital.
