Irene: Flood Waters Receded But Memories of Storm Remain

The village has dried out and the waters have receded but the memory of Hurricane Irene is still probably fresh in many people’s minds across the area. Last year, Irene blew through, soaking the region, damaging houses and leaving thousands without power.

For the most part, the damage has been fixed, homes have dried out, electricity restored and wooden docks blown over in the wind and tide have been straightened.

Last year’s storm was especially dangerous because it came at the same time as an , causing flooding of downtown Port Jefferson all the way up passed Chandler Square.
