Patch Question: With Borders Gone, What Would You Like To See Move In?

The Riverhead location of the bookstore giant closed for good this weekend. What store would you like to see fill the void?

Riverhead's Borders bookstore closed its doors for the last time this weekend, shuttering one of the only major bookstores in the area. The company had declared bankruptcy and despite a last bid effort to stay afloat, was sold to liquidators.

A sign inside the bookstore asked customers to contact Books-A-Million, a rival bookstore chain that had considered taking over Borders, and asking them to set up a store in town. Now that the Borders location is closed, what would you like to see move into the property?

Alright... if I have offended anyones sensibilities.. I do apologize.. But, before this organic free range trend.. we ate and we were happy. Now all we can do is witch about "how many chemicals are in this.. or what quality of crap/fertilizer/manure was that grown in?"... What I was saying (and maneuvered off topic) was that... the restaurant business is booming as it is.. take a gander at Noah's in Greenport, Tweed's and Jerry's in Riverhead, Francesca's in Hampton Bays... if you have the means, go nuts.. however, wouldn't it be more prudent and perhaps more health conscious to cook it yourself? (Hint- Raw food sanitation: The concentration of sanitizer in the wash water must not exceed 2000 ppm hypochlorite. The produce must be rinsed with potable water following the chlorine treatment.)

Anne Marie- much of the food in ordinary grocery stores is not the same you used to buy. Agribusiness, additives, genetically modified and pesticide soaked fruits/veggies may last longer and grow faster- but they accumulating in our bodies and are causing our body chemistry into a tailspin. Trader joe's is a grocery- with very little prepared dishes. (ie a marinated Mahi had olive oil, lemon & pepper as the ONLY ingredients). I'd like some of the local farms to grow more organic too. Between absorbtion into the food, and that which washes into the soil and eventually the groundwater, it is a troubling thought. Cancer clusters in this area are frightening. I may not be able to avoid it totally, but I sure like to try.

Ok.. so for argument's sake.. where was the mahi fished from? What are in the waters there? How was it processed at what plant with what kinds of safety measures? How was it shipped? Were the proper precautions taken? This could go on for a long time before the food system is regulated..

In other words.. in the massive picture.. where does your food come from? How is it grown, taken from the land/sea/air, shipped, processed, transported to your store of choice, then to your table, etc... Where does it come from? How is it processed? Is it refrigerated properly in transport and holding(both commercially AND residentially)? Is it cooked to the proper temperature? Everyone has a responsibility to the safety of the food that they ingest.

Yes traders Joes. I just like the different selections they have. Don't care if it organic or not.
