Port Jeff Track Star Makes Magic at Disney Classic

Earl L. Vandermeulen High School cross-country standout James Burke placed first overall in the boys 1A varsity division race at the 19th annual Disney Cross Country Classic. The competition, presented by New Balance, was held at Walt Disney World in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., on October 11. All expenses for attending the invitational were secured through fundraising initiatives by the team.

Burke, a junior, posted a time of 16:15.26 in the national meet that included 169 runners. Burke is the first student-athlete to win the championship in Port Jefferson Royals history.

Teammates John Albinson, Justin Julich, Matthew Keresztes, Noah Kirchner, Alden Mohacsi, and Parker Schoch came in second place overall in the team results for Division 1A. The Port Jefferson School District congratulates the 2013 boys varsity cross-country team and coach Rod Cawley on this great accomplishment.
