On Jan. 9, more than 50 Port Jefferson elementary, middle and high school string students and their parents attended an evening concert of the New York Philharmonic at Avery Fischer Hall in Lincoln Center. Attendees enjoyed the orchestra's performance of Beethoven's “Fidelio Overture” and Symphony No. 1, Gershwin's “An American in Paris” and Shostakovich's Violin Concerto No. 1 featuring the highly acclaimed violinist Lisa Batiashvili. Also in attendance were Port Jefferson School District Director of Music and Fine Arts Michael Caravello and Port Jefferson Middle School orchestra teacher Christian Neubert.
