We are only a few minutes from the carnage that took place in Medford, yet there isn't even one active anti-drug coalition in the Greater Port Jefferson Area. It would be great if the Port Jefferson Station Civic Association or the new expanded Chamber of Commerce would take the lead or even partner in using their influence.
I dare say, if Medford had an active anti-drug coalition the story might have had a different ending.
These coallitons are springing up in many communities because of the growing heroin epidemic in suffolk county and they are doing something about it....shouldn't we??

Unfortunately there are some misguided who say bringing attention to the epidemic is not good publicity for their communities. Nothing is further from the truth...it is exactly the opposite.
