Woman Hit by Car Downgraded to 'Serious' Condition

Peggy Place was seriously injured on Monday when she was hit by a car as she was trying to catch her dog that ran into the road.

The condition of a Setauket woman who was hit by a car and seriously injured on Monday when she was trying to catch her dog when it ran into the road has been upgraded from critical to serious, according to a media representative at Stony Brook Medical Center. 

Peggy Place, 56, a teacher at Nassakeag Elementary School, was hit by an SUV as she tried to catch her dog that escaped from her yard and onto Main Street in Setauket.  No other information regarding her condition was released.

The dog, a female boxer named Jeordie, was brought to Selden Animal Hospital and then transferred to Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island in West Islip. The hospital was unable to comment on the condition of the dog. 

Van Brunt Manor Rd. to Washington St. in Setauket was closed for several hours Monday morning due to the crash.
