Cops Keeping Close Eye on Sex Offenders Through Halloween

Police to interview and monitor registered sex offenders as Halloween approaches.

With Long Island children looking forward to trick-or-treating this week, Suffolk County Police announced Monday that Special Victims Section detectives will be out in force from now through Halloween to interview and monitor registered sex offenders in the region.

Suffolk Police will coordinate joint surveillance and monitoring operations with numerous other law enforcement authorities, including East End town and village police departments in Southampton, East Hampton, Southold and Riverhead.

Police say the focus of the effort "will be to pay close attention to the holiday décor of the residence as well as conducting in-person interviews for address verification purposes and police monitoring of the designated offender. The information obtained will then be used to perform specifically targeted surveillance operations on Halloween."
