Cops: Maryhaven Manager Stole $19K From Employer

A 28-year-old woman from Shirley is charged with third-degree grand larceny.

Suffolk police on Tuesday arrested a Shirley woman for stealing thousands of dollars from Maryhaven Center of Hope, a Port Jefferson Station-based residential facility for people with special needs.

Police said Samantha Cuomo, 28, stole approximately $19,000 over a 14-month span leading up to March of this year, allegedly spending the money at places such as Hollywood Salon and Day Spa in Miller Place and Estelle's Dressy Dresses in Farmingdale.

A police investigation ensued after a Maryhaven employee in April discovered unauthorized charges on a Maryhaven credit card as well as discrepancies in receipts submitted on behalf of two clients.

Cuomo, who has since been terminated from her post as the manager of a Maryhaven residential facility in Miller Place, is charged with third-degree grand larceny, a felony. She will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Sept. 11.
