Crash Shuts Westbound 347; Knocks Out Power to Shops

Area is clogged after report of transformer fire and blackout in the Home Goods shopping center following the Route 347 Crash.

A two-car crash at Route 347 in Port Jefferson Station/Terryville shut westbound traffic on Saturday, according to police, while witnesses have reported power outages and a transformer fire caused by the crash.

Suffolk County Police said one of the vehicles in the crash hit a pole, causing it to topple, and a witness told cops the transformer on the pole caught fire.

The crash has knocked out power to nearly 1,200 Long Island Power Authority customers, according to LIPA's outage map.

One witness told Patch that she was in the Home Goods store when the lights went out, which caused shoppers to quickly head outside to leave the shopping center. But with the road closure, the rush, as well as the road closure, has caused gridlock in the parking lot.

The road closure begins at the intersection of Terryville Road and Route 347.
