Crimes Nearby: Barricaded Man, Stolen Art and Assault With a Tree Branch

The following arrest information was supplied by the Suffolk County Police Department or village police and does not indicate a conviction.

Police reported the following arrests in areas around Port Jefferson:

Three Village

Two artists returned to their tents at Gallery North's outdoor art show in Setauket on the morning of Sept. 11 to find multiple works of art missing, according to police. Five paintings by artist Maggie Shively and eight etchings and oils by artist Karen Kemp were stolen sometime between the time they closed up shop on Saturday evening and the time they returned Sunday morning.

Daniel Trezza, 23, of Farmingville, was arrested Sept. 9 in Stony Brook and charged with misconduct. Reports indicate Trezza allegedly took his brother's shotgun without permission.

Miller Place-Mount Sinai

Unkown Persons are wanted for slashing tires on multiple cars in Miller Place and Mt. Sinai Friday night into Saturday morning, Suffolk Police said. Cars that were parked in driveways and on the streets of seven different roads in Miller Place and one road in Mt. Sinai were targeted by the criminals, according to police.

Mailboxes were also damaged in the spree. In all, over a dozen instances of criminal mischief were reported. According to police, a small white vehicle may be involved.

Rocky Point

Thomas Gregorius, 18, of Rocky Point was arrested Sept. 9 in Rocky Point and charged with assault. Reports indicate Gregorius took a tree branch and struck an unknown person with it. The incident occurred at Rosewood Rd., Rocky Point at approximately 8:10 a.m.

William Erdogan, 21, of Rocky Point was arrested Sept. 9 in Rocky Point and charged with assault. Reports indicate Erdogan, accompanied by Gregorius, above, allegedly struck someone with a tree branch. The incident occurred at approximately 8;10 a.m. on Rosewood Rd., Rocky Point.

Smithtown

Roy Beardsley, Jr., 37, of Lindenhurst was arrested Sept. 8 in Smithtown and charged with fourth degree criminal mischief. Beardsley was arrested for allegedly grabbing a cell phone, preventing a female from dialing 911. 

Christopher Capolino, 22, of Smithtown was arrested Sept. 7 in Smithtown and charged with seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and two counts of criminal possession of stolen property. Capolino allegedly pawned assorted jewelry that was stolen from women and he was arrested for the alleged possession of heroin in a 2005 Toyota Camry while traveling on Terry Rd., and South Ave., Smithtown at approximately 4:45 p.m.

Riverhead

A Riverhead man who had barricaded himself in his home at 3 Segal Ave. on Tuesday morning turned himself into police without incident shortly after 1:30 p.m, according to a statement from Riverhead Police.

Zdsislaw Skobodzinski, 35, was arrested and charged with second-degree obstructing governmental administration after police said the man barricaded himself inside his home, refused to come out, and threatened officers.

Police said they responded to a 911 call from the home at around 10:10 a.m. reporting a heated domestic dispute between Skobodzinski and his live-in girlfriend. When police arrived, Skobodzinski allegedly threatened to shoot officers and retreated into his house. His girlfriend and her 6-year-old son were removed from the home by responding officers, according to the statement.

Riverhead Police shut down a portion of East Main Street between Elton Street and Route 58 while negotiators, including Police Chief David Hegermiller, came to the scene attempting to get the man to come out peacefully. At around 1:30 p.m., three hours into the standoff, police said Skobodzinski surrendered to police and was taken into custody. An unloaded double-barrel shotgun was found inside the house, according to the statement.

A 16-year-old Riverhead boy was arrested Sept. 12 and charged with first degree placing a false bomb or hazardous substance in relation to an incident involving a false bomb report . The boy was processed and held for arraignment, according to a police report.
