Crimes Nearby: Ex-Con Charged Following Dollar Store Chase

KINGS PARK
An ex-convict and Kings Park resident was arrested on a handful of charges on March 14 after he reportedly stole a bottle of detergent from a Family Dollar store and proceeded to take someone's car to flee police.
According to Suffolk County Police, Sylvayne Sigmon, 43, stole from a store in Central Islip around 10:05 a.m. Police said he proceeded to drive a 2005 Kia Sedona – which he did not have permission to drive – eastbound on Cliff Street while a squad car attempted to pull him over.

Police said Sigmon was later pursued on foot and ran into a fence, breaking it, and through a rear yard on Earle Street around 11 a.m.
HAUPPAUGE

Police said a Brentwood man gave a police officer an ID not belonging to him during a traffic stop while driving a 1996 Saturn in Hauppauge on March 22 at 1:08 a.m.
According to police, Jorge Palomino, 32, was arrested on a charge of second-degree possession of a forged instrument, a felony; false personation, a misdemeanor; and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle, a misdemeanor.
MILLER PLACE
Police arrested two men at the St. Patrick's Day parade in Rocky Point and charged them both with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor. Police said Karl Mevs, 26, and Jason Duryea, 36, both from Rocky Point, had cocaine on them when they were arrested at 5:15 p.m. on March 17.
SMITHTOWN
Police say they found a Nesconset woman drunk at the wheel with her 5-year-old twin daughters in the car Sunday morning.
Danielle Ferrante was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child after police say they found her sitting in a parked, running 2006 Mitsubishi in the parking lot of Shop Rite, located at 335 Route 347 in Hauppauge, at 1:40 a.m.
After interviewing Ferrante, police determined she was intoxicated. Ferrante had her 5-year-old daughters in the car with her, police said.
