Crimes Nearby: Graffiti Found at Elementary School

The following arrest information was supplied by the Suffolk County Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Three Village

• Graffiti was found on a modular building on the campus of Nassakeag Elementary School on Pond Path in Setauket on Aug. 5. The incident is thought to have occurred between 4 p.m. on Aug. 2 and 8 a.m. on Aug. 5 while the buildings were unoccupied over the weekend. A police spokesperson could not provide a description of the markings.

• Someone cut a hole in a chain link fence and cut the locks off two units at a storage facility on Mark Tree Road in East Setauket on Aug. 7. Nothing appeared to be missing from either space. The incident happened at approximately 11 p.m. on Aug. 7 and was caught on surveillance video, police said.

• A resident of Hallock Meadow Drive South in Stony Brook reported Aug. 5 that someone punctured a tire on his 2012 Toyota, which was parked in the driveway of the home. The owner said the incident, which happened Aug. 4 at 6 p.m., is the third time his car has been damaged in this way in recent months.

Riverhead

• Two men were arrested in Riverhead Wednesday after police said they were caught firing a shotgun on Suffolk County parkland. Police officers narrowly missed being hit by the bullets, authorities said. According to Riverhead Town police, officers responded to a call Wednesday at 6:09 p.m. of gunshots being fired near Sound Avenue. Upon arrival, police searched the parkland near the place where the shots were reported in attempt to located the alleged gunmen.

During the search, several additional shots were fired "just missing the officers," according to a report, with the bullets whizzing into the park. Further investigation revealed that two men had been firing a shotgun behind a Sound Avenue home, police said.
