Crimes Nearby: Police Arrest Man Waving a Machete in Setauket

Three Village

Daniel Wexler, 27, of Setauket, was arrested June 14 at 3:27 a.m. and charged with first-offense DWI. Police said Wexler was swerving and failed to stop for a stop sign on Gnarled Hollow Road at Old Town Road in Setauket.

Matthew Weiner, 23, of Setauket, was arrested June 13 at his home in Setauket. Charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, police said he was waving a machete. Police also charged him with criminal possession of a controlled substance for having prescription pills without a prescription.

A man was confronted Saturday night by a trio of men who threw a screwdriver and a filled soda cup at him at approximately 11:55 p.m., according to a police report. Police said three unknown men approached the complainant near the intersection of Belle Meade Road and Technology Drive in East Setauket in a maroon-colored Toyota Camaro, threw the screwdriver and soda cup at him, and fled at a high rate of speed. The complainant said he saw them strike a tree at the intersection of Belle Meade Road and Upper Sheep Pasture Road before continuing to drive away. The man was not injured in the incident, which police classified as second-degree harassment.

Michael Sandella, 47, of Hauppauge, was charged with driving while intoxicated on June 12  at 12:31 p.m. Police said Sandella was observed with the key in the ignition of a Volkswagen Jetta on North Country Road in St. James when he was found to be intoxicated.

Smithtown

Ryan Keenan, 21, of St. James, was arrested on June 14 in Smithtown at 1:21 a.m. on first-offense DWI charges. Reports state Keenan was arrested on Woodlawn Avenue for driving at an excessive speed in a 2008 Lexus on Edgewood Avenue while intoxicated.

Kim Valli, 21, of Franklin Square, was arrested on June 14 in Smithtown at 1:44 a.m. on first-offense DWI charges. Reports state Valli failed to maintain a proper lane driving westbound on Route 25 by Caleb Smith State Park in a 2000 Taurus.

Lucas Godinho, 27, of Brentwood, was arrested on June 10 in Smithtown at 2:16 a.m. on DWAI alcohol charges. Reports state Godinho was driving southbound on Brooksite Drive in a 2005 Chrysler.

Sound Beach

Keith Kocka, 24, of Stony Brook, was arrested June 11 in Sound Beach and charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Police said he was arrested at approximately 9:30 p.m. while seated in a 2000 Toyota.

Stephanie Richards, 20, of Rocky Point, was arrested June 11 in Sound Beach and charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Richards was arrested along with Kocka, according to police.

Mount Sinai

Melanie Wersan, 20, of Mt. Sinai, was arrested June 11 in Patchogue and charged with petty larceny. Wersan was arrested at approximately 8 a.m. at Walgreens for allegedly taking two pairs of sandals and various make-up products without paying for them.

Riverhead

Desmond J. Bright, 31, of Flanders, was arrested June 7 at 9:10 a.m. in Riverside and charged with criminal impersonation in the second degree and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the second degree, both misdemeanors, as well as being an unlicensed driver and littering, both violations. Police said Bright was pulled over for throwing garbage out the window while driving on Route 24 and misidentified himself to an officer.

Riverhead Town Police responded to a call on June 13 at 3:05 p.m. from a Doctors Path resident who said that her son had taken her car without her permission. Prior to the arrival of police at her home, officers observed the vehicle heading northbound on Doctors Path. Officers determined that Paul T. Booker, 33, was wanted by Riverhead Town Police on an outstanding warrant and arrested him; the defendant was also charged with operating the vehicle without a license.The car was returned to Booker's mother. Booker had on second-degree burglary charges.
